The primitive nature of existing hardware and software support of know ledge-based control processes and methods of designing intelligent control systems is noted. The need to develop a special procedure for designing such control systems is emphasized. The principles of a design procedure for multilevel intelligent automatic control systems are proposed. The features of the design of control systems that arc intelligent "in the large" and "in the small" arc analyzed.
