- The article provides comparative study of metadata formats which can be used in CRIS and provides guidelines how these metadata format can be used. The compatibility issues of different metadata formats between each others are addressed. Metadata formats are reviewed according intention, abstraction level, usage patterns and technology criteria. The emphasize is done for associative metadata due to their importance for CRIS. The place of CERIF in CRISs and compatibility study of CERIF with other formats is performed. The main focus of article is appliance of metadata to CRIS
